Dental prosthesis

What

is a dental prosthesis?

A dental prosthesis, also known as dentures or false teeth, replaces missing teeth and surrounding tissues. These removable prostheses can replace some or all of your teeth, depending on your situation. There are two types: complete dentures and partial dentures.

Why

dentures?

Complete tooth loss

a complete prosthesis is necessary when all of the natural teeth in one or both jaws are missing. This restores chewing function, speech and improves aesthetics.

Partial tooth loss

a partial prosthesis can be used when multiple teeth are missing in one jaw. This is anchored to the remaining natural teeth.

Irreparable tooth damage

when teeth are severely worn or damaged by trauma, caries or erosion, and cannot be restored with fillings or crowns.

Severe periodontitis

when there is a lot of loss of jawbone around the teeth, causing them to become unstable and will eventually be lost.

Aesthetic considerations

when the aesthetics of the teeth are severely affected by missing or severely damaged teeth.

Temporary denture

use of a temporary prosthesis while waiting for a permanent solution such as implants or bridges.
